LaFern Watkins
Host / Community Director / Performer
LaFern currently host Radio Disney’s 1110AM Community Playground and the Southern California Experience on ESPN 710AM. With these two public affairs shows, she highlights events, charities and tackles issues in the Southern California community. Watkins also serves as the Director of Community Affairs for the Southern California Broadcasters Association. In this position she facilitates the use of Public Service announcements on local radio and television stations for over 1500 non-profit organizations, and publishes the weekly EEO Job Alert Bulletin at www.scba.com which helps radio and television stations recruit qualified employees and meet FCC employment practice guidelines.

LaFern serves on the Board of Directors for Print Interactive Radio and Television Educational Society (P.I.R.A.T.E.S) and is the Immediate Past President for American Women in Radio and Television Southern California Chapter where she has won several national B.E.L.L. Awards for her work with the chapter.
In LaFern’s spare time she has appeared in Robey Theatre Company’s Dessalines and Permanent Collection which was revived at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles, Blues for an Alabama Sky at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago with Emmy winning director Chuck Smith. Her other Chicago credits include, Late Bus to Mecca, Day of Absence and Poof! at Onyx Theatre; Afrosynthesis at MPACCT, and The Temple at ETA. LaFern also appeared in Fox’s Bernie Mac Show, ABC’s Boston Legal and Oprah Winfrey Show, Lifetime’s “What Should You Do?” and Universal Pictures’ pilot The 900 Lives of Jackie Frye.
